Torsion Spring Replacement San Diego
There are several types of garage doors that use tension and power of the steel spring to compensate most of the door weight when opening garage door. Depending on your door type and style your garage door may have one of the two types of springs. There may be a torsion spring used to operate garage door or extension spring. How to know which one you have?
Torsion Springs
A common overhead roll-up garage door mechanism use a torsion spring to carry most of the door weight making it easy to open by hand manually or with automatic door opener. Smaller doors like single car garage door most of the time has only one torsion spring. Larger doors have two springs on each side to balance and align the weight of the door. Torsion springs are manufactured to last about 6 to 10 years with average use 4 times per day.
Extension Springs
Older and heavier one piece garage doors are powered with extension springs to compensate the weight of the door when opening. Depending on the size and weight of the one piece garage door, there may be 2 or 4 springs used in garage door system. These springs are easier to replace and have life span of 10 to 12 years with average daily use.
